very confusing Mar 2, 2017 5:59 PM
By: Megan Kristina Malette, COA

I failed this test after scribing and coding for an ophthalmologist for months. The wording on some of these questions is completely backward. I had to answers flagged when I submitted yet still got over 20 questions wrong, even with endless hours of research, even phone calls to medicare and asking OD's and DO's. If they had recommended resources where you could actually find the answers, that would be great because all you can do is rely on the internet to research and apparently it doesn't provide the answers this test wants. I even began to wonder if this test was outdated, but know they just added the 2017 version. So I don't know, good luck!

JCAHPO RESPONSE:
AAEX1007 Ophthalmic Coding Specialist Exam was updated to the 2017 regulations in February 2017.

  • The detailed course description clearly states: “To successfully complete this examination, you will need various study and reference materials. Please visit the AAOE Website for a list of resources.”
  • It also states that this is an open-book examination. Candidates may access the recommended study resources, as well as a practice exam, from AAOE.
