Ocular Emergencies: Screening Tool and Alert Protocol

Prompt recognition of urgent ophthalmic emergencies is imperative for the preservation of vision and quality of life. Ocular emergencies such as central retinal artery occlusion, open globe injuries, eye chemical burns, retrobulbar hemorrhage, and acute angle-closure glaucoma can result in vision loss. Diagnosis is based on astute screening, which can be guided by the ocular alert screening tool in this article. Also provided is direction to ophthalmic team members for treatment and management of ocular emergencies.
