Aspheric contact lenses have continued to improve over the last several years, providing enhanced vision and comfort for a wide range of patients. Aspheric contact lenses can provide better vision to single vision patients with astigmatism and they can deliver both near and distance optics to presbyopic patients. Aspheric curves on the posterior surface can improve alignment and increase comfort. This article provides a basic lesson in the geometric principles involved in aspheric designs as well as a primer on designs currently available and the proper patient selection for each type.
