This course will discuss the basics of fitting rigid gas permeable and soft contact lenses based on refractive error, corneal shape and patient motivation as a guide for choosing the best initial lens design. The anatomy of rigid and soft lenses will be discussed as well as the fitting process of each lens design. Readers will be guided through assessing fit, and various tricks of the trade will be shared to improve success of various lens modalities. At the conclusion of this article, readers will be able to explain basic contact lens terminology and apply the fitting processes discussed of rigid and soft contact lenses in their everyday clinic.
