This course will discuss the basics of prosthetic soft lens fittings for visual and cosmetic rehabilitation of the eye. A basic knowledge of soft lens fitting is required, as well as general ocular anatomy and physiology. The article will discuss who can benefit from the use of a prosthetic lens, including patients with congenital defects, surgical defects and ocular injuries. A discussion of the various lens options will be discussed including pupil options, iris color options, underprinting, and fitting parameters. At the conclusion of this article, the reader will have a better understanding of how to choose the best design and obtain the best fit of a prosthetic soft lens to correct the needs of these special contact lens patients.
