Since the introduction of corneal lenses by Kevin Touhy in the 1950s, practitioners throughout the world have known about the benefits of corneal lenses for improved visual acuity. The materials have changed from the original polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), through oxygen permeable (GP) plastics, such as cellulose acetate buterate (CAB), silicone acrylate, fluorosilicone acrylate and many other types of polymers.
