This article discusses soft and gas permeable multifocal contact lens options available for the presbyopic patient. Choosing the right multifocal candidate is important, from screening patients carefully to understanding the needs and expectations of the presbyope. The designs and limits of each lens modality will be discussed, as well as troubleshooting pearls. When to choose one modality over another will also be discussed. At the conclusion of this article, the reader will be able to apply the lens design explanations and fitting recommendations to their daily practice.
