Introduction to Fluorescein Angiography

This online learning module will provide the basic information needed when performing fluorescein angiography. Anatomy and physiology of the eye, patient safety considerations, imaging techniques, and fluorescein angiography sequencing will be covered.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify at least 3 landmark dates in the history and development of fluorescein angiography
  • State the order of the layers of the neurosensory retina and describe the key functions of the retina and choroid as they relate to the circulation system of the eye
  • Describe the progress and location of fluorescein dye in the retinal vessels during the early, mid and late phases of a normal angiogram
  • Recognize a minimum of 3 side effects that may arise during an FA
  • Name three diseases of the eye and list the important phases to document during FA to best assist in diagnosis and treatment plans
