Course Description:

This webinar prepares ophthalmic technicians to triage and assist in the management of pediatric and young-adult ocular trauma, with emphasis on common toy-related injuries in children, including gel-blaster projectiles. We will review typical presenting signs, initial clinic workflows, and escalation triggers, drawing on findings from a multicenter case series and pediatric trauma cohorts. We'll also cover prognostic tools (Ocular Trauma Score) and key sequelae, traumatic glaucoma, retinal detachment, and cataract to support accurate counseling.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Recognize common presentation patterns of ocular trauma in kids and young adults and identify when clinic findings warrant urgent escalation.
  2. Apply Ocular Trauma Score (OTS) and pediatric risk indicators to anticipate prognosis and guide patient/family education.
  3. Discuss effective communication during ocular trauma evaluation, ensuring accurate documentation, and coordination with the clinical team.
