Course Description:

A growing extension of AOP clinical skills are growing responsibilities expected by patients of the eye care team. To prepare for these changes and additional patient care responsibilities, AOP need to be trained and educated to understand low vision, vision impairment, blindness and be ready to answer patient questions. AOP will need the skills to be an active and intelligent Patient Advocacy care giver in the clinic.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Increase the knowledge and skills of the eye care team to provide higher quality patient care.
  2. Assist patients in understanding their care plan and knowing their current state of disease control, treatment, and goal endpoint.
  3. Engage patients in shared decision making to increase the likelihood of good clinical outcomes.
  4. Assist with behavior change that the patient agrees with; and work with patients to overcome barriers to medication adherence.
  5. Provide education and training to the eye care team to ensure that as many eye caregivers receive the proper education necessary to perform their jobs effectively.
